Mixing Red-Kote® Dry with Acetone
In order to use Red-Kote® Dry it must be mixed with Acetone first. After correct mixing,
the application and performance of the product is identical to Red-Kote® Liquid.
WARNING!: Acetone is extremely flammable. Read the warnings
on the Acetone label carefully. Do not use Acetone within 5 metres of
any flames, pilot lights, electric motors, fans or electric switches. The
vapors are heavy and can accumulate on the floor and travel some
distance to sources of ignition.
Please read the entire directions before beginning. The most common
problems are not screwing the lid on tightly enough and not shaking
vigorously enough to get all of the powder wet with Acetone.
- Remove the lid. Lumps usually form in the product during shipping.
Breaking up the larger lumps helps the product to dissolve.
-
Fill the bottle with Acetone to 38mm down from the rim of the bottle.
The extra space is needed to allow mixing space during shaking.
-
Screw the lid on very tightly to prevent leaking and shake vigorously
for one minute.
-
Remove the lid and add Acetone again to the 38mm level. Replace
the lid and shake well for one minute.
-
Repeat step number 4 until all the dry powder has become wet and
dark red and the liquid remains at the 38mm level. (About 725ml of
Acetone will have been used.)
-
Let the bottle stand with the lid on for 24 hours.
-
Shake well and check for undissolved lumps. If any lumps remain,
replace the lid and allow to stand another 12 hours.
-
After the product is completely dissolved and smooth, it will be
necessary to top up the liquid again to the 38mm level. You may
make the Red-Kote® a little thinner if you like by filling the bottle
higher. Shake again for one minute. The Red-Kote® is now ready to
use. Keep the lid on tightly until use. (The total amount of Acetone
used will be between 750 and 800ml.)
