Greg can fix your vintage radiator. But why would you want him to?
Your grandfather's 1916 Model T Ford, has become un-drivable due to the radiator being unserviceable. The local radiator guy had a go at the leaks in the core, but the top tank has cracks in it, and after all, it is around 90 years old.
So you hear about FTRS, and you take the radiator out and deliver it to Greg at Northgate.
Greg dismantles the radiator, strips the parts down, and cleans them up. A new core is then ordered and built to specifications taken from the old core.
Aside from the core, the Model T's radiator is made of:
The above parts are cleaned by glass blasting. Greg is able to repair the top brass tank and service the bottom tank. But unfortunately, in this particular case, the steel hose fittings, side bands, and mounts are so corroded that they are a complete write-off.
It is impossible to see faults in brass once it is clean. So it was only after the tanks were cleaned and resweated to the new core that a leak was discovered during testing!
Greg fixes the leak, and the job is completed. This is a brass era radiator from 1916, so the brass is fully polished.
Now let's tell the same story again, but better!
You keep the original Model T radiator hanging on the wall of your shed as a memento. You open the Brassworks box and fit the new Brassworks radiator assembly to the vehicle. All the parts are new. There are no possibilities of repaired areas cracking again within 12 months. Infact, there are no compromises made due to repair at all, because nothing is being repaired. Job finished.
Because of the power of buying and shipping in bulk, this new radiator will cost about the same as re-coring the original.
Ford originally made the Model T radiator with round tubes. No core maker in Australia has ever made a round tube radiator. So re-coring is done with flat tubes. However, the Brassworks reproduction model T radiator has the original style round tube core. For the first time the "proper" radiator is available in Australia.
The Brassworks has a very good name in the USA amongst Ford owners, and they have been making these radiators for over 30 years.
